How many Whistleblowers have applied to TWBH?


Since launching in February 2022, TWBH has supported over 400 whistleblowers, providing a variety of services including legal and psychological support.

What kind of support does TWBH offer?


TWBH offer legal, psychological, financial and security support to qualifying whistleblowers, to assist them in the difficult journey they face when reporting wrongdoing. Applicants can select which services they need when filling out an application. So far, most requests we receive are for legal support.

Gender Divide


Most of our whistleblowers who apply for support identify as male. This aligns with research studies that show that men are more likely to blow the whistle than women, potentially as statistically female whistleblowers face greater retaliation than their male counterparts.

The reporting age


The majority of whistleblowers who apply for support seem to be between the age of 46 and 55. This is in line with global research, which reports the average age of whistleblowers to be around 45 years old. Contributing factors to this include experience and professional exposure, ethical development, job security and tolerance and generational maturity.

Location


While we still only provide support locally in South Africa, the majority of our whistleblowers come from Gauteng and the Western Cape.
